Wedding Invitation Printing Guide
By Mike Bannoura
Wedding invitations are one of the most personal print projects we handle at PostNet Denver. Unlike standard business printing, invitations involve premium materials, precise color matching, and often multiple coordinating pieces: the main invitation, RSVP card, details card, and envelopes. Getting the details right takes planning, and starting early is the key to a stress-free experience.
Paper selection sets the entire tone. For formal weddings, cotton paper with a soft, textured feel is the classic choice. Linen paper offers a subtle woven texture that adds elegance without the higher cost of cotton. For modern or minimalist weddings, smooth 130lb uncoated cardstock in bright white or natural ivory works beautifully. If your design features photography, a matte coated stock reproduces images more accurately while still feeling substantial. Avoid gloss coatings for invitations since they feel less personal and are harder to write on.
Format options range from simple to elaborate. A flat card is the most affordable and works for any style. Folded cards create a booklet feel with room for more information inside. For a premium touch, layered invitations stack two or three cards of different sizes and colors, held together with a belly band or ribbon. Pocket invitations organize all your pieces, including the RSVP and details cards, in a single folder. We can print and assemble any of these formats at PostNet Denver.
Timeline is critical. Order your invitations 12 to 16 weeks before the wedding. This gives time for design, proofing, printing, assembly, addressing, and mailing. Send invitations 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding date, or 8 to 12 weeks for destination weddings. RSVP deadlines should be set 3 to 4 weeks before the wedding to give you time to finalize catering and seating. If you are running behind, we offer rush printing that can cut production time to 2 to 3 days.
At PostNet Denver, we have printed invitations for hundreds of Colorado weddings.
