For modern or minimalist weddings, smooth 130lb uncoated cardstock in bright white or natural ivory works beautifully. If your design features photography, a matte coated stock reproduces images more accurately while still feeling substantial. Avoid gloss coatings for invitations since they feel less personal and are harder to write on.

Format options range from simple to elaborate. A flat card is the most affordable and works for any style. Folded cards create a booklet feel with room for more information inside. For a premium touch, layered invitations stack two or three cards of different sizes and colors, held together with a belly band or ribbon.
